Yes. Once my husband and I started meal planning for our family instead of grabbing nice take out (Houston's, PF Changs, etc), we both noticed weight loss. We weren't even trying to lose weight - just save money by cooking our own meals. But anytime I do have weight to lose, I always keep a journal of what I eat, so meal planning does work.
