What's the best way to shop at multiple stores? One store generally doesn't have the best sale price on everything and we have two different stores nearby to choose from. It looks like FotT will ...

Also, @Mack, I like to use Food on the Table's Facebook app to get a quick overview of what's on sale at my stores, and then choose proteins and make a plan using that as a starting point.

I thought I was supposed to get an email with special sales. I haven't received one yet and I have been signed up for two weeks.

Hi Kyra! Welcome to Food on the Table! To get our weekly emails, make sure your account is set up on the proper email settings. To do this go to "Settings" (at the top of this page) then click on "Notifications." There you can click on the various email notifications you wish to receive, making sure you click save afterwards. I hope this helps and please let us know if you have any other questions or need additional help.

Carol, you can either check the sale circulars on your dashboard (top right hand corner of the dashboard) OR you can click on "my meal plan" and click on "compare store sales" to see what's on sale at your chosen stores or check out or Facebook app, it lists everything on sale at your chosen store.

Thanks for the info!

I suggest if you are on a tight budget just buying generic spices as you need them/run out and if you only need a small amount buying them from the bulk bin at the store. Also some of those pre-filled spice racks come with a lot of those 'basic' spices and can be purchased on sale or using coupons for $12-20, which is much cheaper than buying them individually. With that said, once you have a basic spice supply you can make some of those specialty spice blends (ie: poultry seasoning, Creole seasoning, etc) at home.

Thanks Chef Heather. I'll check out that link in a few minutes. I laughed at my husband yesterday he wanted that chicken sausage pasta dish I made the other night for lunch but I had already given the leftovers to a neighbor to taste. Then he tells me it wasn't too bad. Oops, guess the next time he'll eat and keep his comments to himself!!! Heather, I love the thought of making my own seasonings for easy access. I appreciate the tips on buying spices.

Someone asked how much you *SPEND* on groceries, which was interesting. I'd also be interested in knowing ways that others have found to save.

I only cook for myself, but I spend less than $60 a month on groceries while eating out less than once a month, without using coupons, shopping around, or spending a bunch of time on meal planning. I started writing down how I do it, but the comment was getting pretty long so I posted the tips on my blog instead: http://blog.jebdm.net/post/18955489388/eating-for-less-than-60-a-month

I extreme coupon and it helps tremendously. I will say, it is quite a bit of work, but for me worth it. When u don't have to buy toothpaste, dental floss, pain relievers, dish soap etc. it is a huge savings. Plus the savings I get on food.
