I could only find smoked ham hocks. It gave the beans a good smoky flavor. It fed 2 of us well. I think it needs more beans to stretch to 4 servings.

May I ask,how many beans are you cooking? I cook at least 2 cups of beans,and I get enough beans to have at least a whole crock pot full.That feeds more than 4 servings,way more.In fact,when it comes to Lima beans,my hubby eats so much,that I have to take away the bowl they are in,cause he ends up with a tummy ache,from eating too much.
