This requires a pre-made jar of pasta sauce? That's not real cooking I could have thought of that one without the need for an app :-/

Hi Anonymous! While most of our recipes are geared to being fast, easy and affordable (being ready in 45 minutes or less using 8 ingredients or less), which means sometimes using prepackaged products, we do have a large variety of more advance recipes. If you are looking for some of these more advance and 'made from scratch' recipes let us know and we would be more that happy to point you in that direction. But our goal is to help get 'food on the table' for all cooking skills and levels as well as busy families.

This sounds great! I'm going to roast some zucchini while I cook the sausage to add a bit of veggie to the recipe :)

Anonymous... you could always use your own homemade pasta sauce instead of the pre-made sauce. The recipe isn't written in stone.

Thank you for your comment Shara! You are absolutely right that you could make your own homemade marinara sauce for this recipe. Here is a simple marinara sauce recipe:

    Simple Marinara Sauce

    2 tablespoons olive oil
    1 small onion, chopped
    3 cloves garlic, minced
1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
1 (28 ounce) can tomato puree
    3 tablespoons dried Italian seasoning
salt and black pepper, to taste

Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Saute onion until aromatic and tender. Add in garlic and saute for 1-2 minutes. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato puree, and seasonings. Reduce heat to low and simmer for at least 20 minutes.

I made this in a cast iron skillet and it is a family favorite. Easy to make, and very kid friendly.

Tasted great, easy to make (and remember, for that matter), and there was hardly any clean up. 5/5 for me and I'm going to add it to my own rotation of cooked meals.

I've had the italian sausages in the oven at 400 like the recipe says for 8 minutes now and they're nowhere near brown? Am I missing something?

Yeah, I had the same problem. What did was cook for 10 on each side and letting them brown for a final 5 minutes. At the end of the 25 minutes they likely won't be cooked in the middle. It didn't really phase me though. Putting them in at 350, with the rest of the mixture, brought them out just right.

@Howard and Anonymous- Thank you for pointing out this typo. The recipe should say "Cook Italian sausage in oven at 400 degrees until brown, approximately 8 minutes per side." I have edited this recipe to show the accurate directions. Another way to cook sausage links (and actually my preferred cooking method) is to heat 2 tablespoon olive oil in a 12-inch heavy skillet over moderate heat until hot but not smoking, then cook sausages, turning over once, until well browned, about 8 minutes total. Carefully add 3 tablespoons water to pan. Cover, cook, stirring occasionally, until sausages are fully cooked through, about 5-8 minutes. When cooked thoroughly, remove from pan and cool slightly and slice.
