Ingredients

  • 1 (pound) ground turkey
  • 1 (1.0 ounce package) ranch dressing mix
  • 1 (whole) egg
  • 3 (clove) garlic, minced
  • 1/4 (cup) Worcestershire sauce
  • Pinch (to taste) salt
  • 1/8 (teaspoon) pepper

Directions

  1. Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat, and lightly oil the grate.
  2. Knead together the turkey, ranch mix, egg, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper in a bowl until evenly combined; divide into 4 equal portions and form into patties.
  3. Cook on the preheated grill about 5 minutes per side for well done. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).
  4. Note: Use salt sparingly as pre-packaged salad dressing mixes and Worcestershire sauce tend to be salty. Make a small "test" pattie to test for saltiness.

For some reason I found them salty. I've had better turkey burgers :(. Good news, kids ate them and didn't eat the french fries. So, I guess that's worth a star!

Followed this recipe to a "t." Even had my husband check me. I had to add an extra pound of turkey because it was so runny I could barely make patties.

@Andrea~ Hi this is Chef Heather at Food on the Table. Some meatball or burger recipes call only for an egg to be used as the binding agent to hold everything together. But sometimes it is not enough. Bread crumbs or a few slices of bread soaked in a little bit of milk and then crumbled into the meat mixture (in addition to the egg) help hold the meat together better to form into meatballs or burger patties.

@Julie~ Glad to hear your kids ate these up! To reduce the amount of salt omit the extra salt called for in recipe and use a low sodium Worcestershire sauce.

HUGE HIT! Family loved it. Didn't add the 1/8 tsp of salt based on coments but didn't have to add bread crumbs either, seemed to be fine to make into patties and then was very moist and well seasoned after cooked. Added a slice of ched. cheese on top of each and served on sandwich thins instead of buns with sweet potato fries.

Sure!! It's based on the recipe found here: http://www.5dollardinners.com/2011/04/homemade-ranch-dressing-mix.html

I modified it some b/c I like thyme and not a big fan of dill. So my version is:

    Ranch Mix

    2 Tbsp dried parsley
    1/2 tsp dried dill
    1/2 tsp dried thyme
    1 tsp garlic powder
    1 tsp onion powder
    1/2 tsp dried basil
    1/2 tsp cracked pepper

Christina - I think that's the same one that I've used - what do you use as the base? I think it suggests that you mix 1 Tablespoon of this mix with 1/3 cup Homemade Mayonaise or Greek Yogurt and 1/4 cup Coconut Milk. I'm curious as to what you used. :)

    Christina

Stacy - This was my first time making the ranch mix and but I've read that 2:1 raito of Mayo:Sour cream is a good base. I like your idea using greek yogurt and coconut milk much better.

I ended up using just sour cream and I feel like I'm missing something - I'll try adding some mayo. My version calls for more parsley but I'm thinking of reducing it. Here's where I got my recipe from and there's a few others on there as well. Christina - not sure if you can pull them out and make into their own on this site. Also, I've searched for "easy ranch mix" on this site and it doesn't come up - am I doing something wrong? :) http://wellnessmama.com/4430/14-homemade-spice-blends/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=14-homemade-spice-blends

GOOD, but had the runny patty problem as well. I needed a better grade of Turkey like Jennie O. I had another brand and had to add more crackers. I cut out the amount of salt to 1/2 teaspoon. I would definitely make these again, but add less sauce so the patties are not runny. The taste is wonderful!

  • Chef Leslie (Food on the Table)
Chef Leslie (Food on the Table)

@Nancy and @Candace, sometimes burgers (whether turkey, chicken OR beef) need additional binders besides just egg. Bread crumbs and/or parm are a great way to do this plus they add more flavor! @Monica and @Shauna, Worcestershire sauce and pre-packaged salad dressings can be very salty and so I really think that any additional salt must be used sparingly, if at all.

  • Chef Leslie (Food on the Table)
Chef Leslie (Food on the Table)

I edited the recipe to make salt as needed to taste. I also added a note about making a "test" pattie to test for saltiness. This is always a good idea when making anything with ground meat (such as meatloaf or burgers) to safely taste the seasonings.

I made these tonight and the flavor was good, I used only 1 Tbsp of Worcestershire sauce and added no extra salt. I should have added some bread crumbs though because they came apart as I cooked them. However they tasted really good.

Great! I ended up making this as mini-meatloaf thingies: done in a cupcake pan instead of patties. Good alternative to those watching carbs. I did end up adding about a quarter cup of italian breadcrumbs, because it was a little loose, and next time I probably won't use as much worchestershire and leave out the salt. Very tasty though!!

I sometimes use an unusual ingredient as a bonding/filler agent in burgers. I usually use breadcrumbs but ran out one day so I crushed some Cheerios cereal and added that instead. I now swear by it and prefer them to bread crumbs. I just put about a half cup or so in a ziploc bag and crush with a meat tenderizer until the "O"s are all gone. Then add to my ground beef or turkey.

I tried these last night with some changes. I added 1/4 of the Worchestir sauce, no salt and used HV Ranch mix. I too initially found them way to runny to do anything with - I only had 1 lb of meat. So I searched the kitchen and vala - Corn Flakes! I crushed up about a cup of them and added them and they made for perfect burgers - didn't crumble at all! My partner tried them and couldn't believe how moist they were. AWESOME!

Changed this up a bit for my family of 8 to make it a little healthier. Used 40 oz. of extra lean ground turkey, 2 ranch mixes, 2 egg whites, 1/4 C. worcestershire, a dash of pepper, 6 cloves minced garlic and about 6 whole wheat Ritz crackers. Mixed together and made into 12 patties. I don't think I would have liked them if they had been any more seasoned than they were with this ratio. Almost my whole family loved it, and that's not an easy task. Thanks :)

I did not add the salt. I used 3/4 of the Ranch packet and less than the 1/4 cup of worcestershire sauce. The egg did make my patties runny but it was no problem once they hit the pan. I made 5 patties.

    a hit

  • Absolute disaster. I doubled the recipe because there's four people in our house, and four burgers probably wouldn't be enough. The first batch went on and fell through the grill almost immediately (after I'd already added about a cup of bread crumbs). We ended up adding a full cup more of breadcrumbs, but by that point there was so much turkey stuck to the grill that it was burning, and the second batch of burgers burned to a crisp.

Not untasty, but we won't be trying this one again. So much wasted food. :(

we enjoyed them! I didn't add all the worcestershire sauce it called for as it seemed it would make it far too wet. I'm glad I held back as the flavor of the sauce was very strong with only about a 1/2 of the recipe measure. I'd cut it even more. I let the burgers set a bit in the fridge and that seemed to help hold them together a little better too. We ate them with pepper jack cheese and red onion and a wheat kaiser roll-- very tasty.

These were delicious. I used the spicy ranch mix instead because my husband and I like things a little more heated and I used ground chicken instead. They were a little goopy and were falling through the grate so we ended up cooking them on our cast iron skillet. They were delicious, moist and flavorful. I may freeze them next time and grill them frozen like the turkey burgers I buy at Costco or make a meat loaf.

Anyone know how to modify recipe if I use a pannini grill? Mine were soggy, but the flavor was still really good. I'm not sure why it's turning out so soggy. I'm going to try the outdoor grill tonight, but would like to be able to use an indoor grill too.

  • Chef Heather (Food on the Table)
Chef Heather (Food on the Table)

Hi Shawn! Are you asking to prepare these on an indoor grill pan, such as a George Foreman? If so, these will work just fine if prepared using one of these indoor grill pans. I would still recommend spraying the pan with some non-stick spray before grilling. If using an open grill pan, you will still want to grill the burgers for 5-6 minutes per side. If using a grill pan with a lid, such as a George Foreman, then you will only need to cook them for about 6-7 minutes total. Another tip, if you find these too soggy, is to reduce the amount of Worcestershire sauce to 2-3 tablespoons and/or omit the egg and use approximately 1/3 cup dry bread crumbs as a binder to hold the burgers together.

  • Barbara

Thank you! I will try what you recommended. The taste is great I just have to get them a little less soggy. Does the egg add protein to the recipe? If so I will keep the egg and use less worcestershire sauce. We are trying to cut down on carbs and up our proten. Thank you so much! It is overall a very tasty and easy recipe.

  • Chef Heather (Food on the Table)
Chef Heather (Food on the Table)

Hi Barbara! The egg will add some extra protein to this dish but the main purpose of the egg is to act as 'a binder' and help hold the burger together. Other common 'binders' for burgers, meatloaf, meatballs, etc. are breadcrumbs, oatmeal, sliced bread that has been chopped and soaked in milk, and as previously mentioned eggs. The eggs will add extra 'wetness' to the burgers and that is why I suggested using breadcrumbs instead. But if you are looking for a low carb option, then yes, keep the egg and simply reduce the Worcestershire sauce to 2 tablespoons.
