It is very tender and delicious! This technique is great for any type of meat that needs to be braised to become tender (meats like chuck roasts and rump roasts).

I use roast and beef stock instead chicken and its taste fairly good. Even children like it but I will modify next time... blend beef broth with 4-5 small roasted tomatillos, smoke chili dried peppers I got in Mexico... that wud give the meat a awesum flavor!

Maria, sounds like you are thinking like a chef! Roasted tomatillos and dried chili peppers would be a beautiful addition and would defiantly enhance this dish.

what spices could you blend in place of the pork taco mix? I don't use most packet mixes since my family is gluten free.

Hi Chris! Staci is right on point with her suggestions! Here is my go to recipe for a homemade taco seasoning!

    Homemade Taco Seasoning

    4 tablespoons chili powder
    3 tablespoons paprika
    3 tablespoons ground cumin
    1 tablespoon onion powder
    2 teaspoons garlic powder
    ΒΌ teaspoon cayenne pepper
    2 teaspoons dried oregano
    2 teaspoons sea salt
    2 teaspoons black pepper

Combine all ingredients in a bowl, and mix well to blend. Store in an airtight container until ready to use.

Note: Use 2 tablespoons to replace 1 package of taco seasoning in recipes.

They didn't have a pork butt at my grocery store so I used a leaner cut of meat. It was good but I should have waited for the pork butt - I think it would have been a little moister. Overall good though. I warmed some pinto beans and white rice and seasoned with a Chipotle hot sauce to make an at home version of a caritas burrito bowl. Served with corn tortillas and my husband liked it that way.

These were delicious! We will be adding this to the rotation! We had enough left overs to make bbq pulled pork sandwiches the next day. LOVED IT!

This was really good. I didn't know what pork taco seasoning was so I used the regular store brand taco mix. It still turned out great.

@Crystal, when a recipe calls for taco seasoning its not specific to pork or beef. Generally, it is just labeled "taco seasoning". If you want to make your own from spices you probably have in your pantry please refer to Chef Heather's recipe above!.

It was ok. Nothing wrong with it. Just nothing special. The meat was too fatty. Look for an extra lean cut.
