I made this last night, but instead doubled the recipe and made meatballs. I baked them in the oven and they turned out great. The kids loved them and the leftovers will go in to pasta for dinner tonight.

Perhaps adding some fresh chopped oregano or a pinch dried oregano to turkey mixture would take care of seasoning issue. Also, for a quick sauce, make a tzikiki sauce by mixing 1/2 cup each of sour cream and Greek yogurt, 2-3 tablespoons finely each of minced onion and peeled cucumber, 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley, 2 tablespoons fresh dill weed, salt, pepper, and zest/juice of 1 lemon; mix thoroughly. If you want a bit more bite in sauce, add some finely minced fresh garlic to taste. This sauce can be doubled/tripled and also makes a great dip for toasted pita chops. Refrigerate leftovers in a tightly sealed container; stir before using.

@Anonymous, Please see the disclosure statement listed above this data. Also, please note that that figure is in MILLIGRAMS. 1 gram = 1000 milligrams so it's not alot of sodium. Always look to see if it's milligrams or if its grams (I know this can be confusing).

    Delicious!!!

  • The flavor was excellent, but these fell apart on our gas grill. We had to cook them on our George Foreman grill indoors. All I can think is I didn't extract enough moisture from the spinach. Will prepare again!

I actually enjoyed this burger. didn't think I would because of the spinach.. but ..turned out great and will be making these again.. I made them and because I'm single.. froze the rest and just pulled out one at a time to have..

@Barbara, that's a great idea for single people who are only cooking for one. When I was single, I would still buy in bulk and portion out the food (sometimes cooked and sometimes not - i.e. buy a large container of chicken quarters and place one leg and thigh each in freezer bags) and freeze the rest to save money.

  • My whole family ate these and loved them, even the man of the house who professes to be anti feta. Thanks!

@Anonymous, I agree. I would add onion powder or maybe even onion soup mix to the turkey as it tends to be bland.

I would actually switch out the frozen spinach for fresh spinach next time, mixing the spinach and egg together first. I just hate the test of frozen spinach :(

Any chance you could let me know if I should modify the ingredients if I use 1.25 LBS (20 oz) of ground turkey? That is the standard package size of Jennie O Ground Turkey I found at all of my stores. Will this make a difference or cause them to be soggy?

  • Chef Heather (Food on the Table)
Chef Heather (Food on the Table)

Hi Barbara! If using only 1.25 pounds of ground turkey, I would suggest using only one egg as the binder to hold the burgers together. One egg should be plenty to hold the burgers together while not making them too soggy. As far as the other ingredients, I think that the amounts listed above will be fine, your burgers will just be packed with flavor! : ) Also, keep in mind to prevent sogginess that you will want to make sure your spinach is thoroughly thawed and squeezed dry.
