Ingredients

  • 1 (cup) mayonnaise
  • 2 (clove) garlic, minced
  • 1 (tablespoon) olive oil
  • 1 (pound) beef round steak, cut into thin strips
  • 1 (whole) onion, sliced into rings
  • 4 hoagie rolls, split lengthwise and toasted
  • 1 (8.0 ounce package) provolone cheese, grated

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise and minced garlic. Cover, and refrigerate. Preheat oven to 500 degrees F (260 degrees C).
  2. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Saute the onions in a small amount of oil in a heavy skillet. Add onion. Add the sliced steak when the onions are almost done. Cook the steak for about 5 minutes Remove from heat.
  3. Spread each toasted bun generously with garlic mayonnaise. Divide beef mixture into the buns. Top with shredded cheese. Place sandwiches on a baking pan.
  4. Heat sandwiches in preheated oven, until cheese is melted or slightly browned.

    The written recipe needs a little attention, it is not explained that the buns need to be toasted first, it just says to set the oven temp. And it says twice too add onions. And I'm not sure about that much garlic. However, I made it to night and it was still a winner!

    Super yummy but I made a few changes. First, it needs more than one onion. I used two. Then I sauted the onions seperatly and they were much better. And the garlic mayo is super yummy...don't hold back there.

    @Jamie, I think the more onions the better! And if you cook them low and slow they will release more sugar and be sweeter and much more flavorful! Good job!

    Good but I added peppers, mushrooms and salt and pepper. It still needed a little more seasoning next time. Quick and easy though. :)
