Oh, no! (As someone who still thinks of White Castle burgers as an occasional guilty pleasure, I'm not sure why cream or mayo were involved...)

@Jennifer, would you mind telling me what your problems were with this recipe? If I have more details then I can better address the problem. Thanks.

My family was not a big fan. The recipe just did not have a lot of flavor and was very salty.

@Anonymous, onion soup mixtures can sometimes be very salty. You can make your own with the following ingredients: 4 teaspoons beef bouillon granules (use the low sodium kind or it will be too salty) 8 teaspoons dried onion flakes, 1 teaspoon onion powder and ¼ teaspoon seasoned pepper. Just mix together and keep in an airtight container. You can also add sour cream instead of mayo.

It was very dry, nothing to keep it together, taste was just salt and hamburger. Even my kids didn't like it, and they will eat just about anything.

Jennifer, I'm sorry that this recipe didn't work out for you. I would add a little sour cream to this recipe if it seems dry.

My family loved it! We might add ranch style beans next time. I would also be interested to try sour cream instead of mayo....but yummy how it was!

This was a little too salty for my tastes. I think if I did it again, I'd use more meat, as the toppings were quite heavy. Maybe 2lb instead of one?

Julie, doubling the meat is a great suggestion. Also since the onion soup mix tends to be heavy on salt next time you could try only using half a packet or using Mrs. Dash onion seasoning (which is salt free).

I added some cut up dill pickles to this recipe this time and it was great. I omit the salting of the meat as it does not need any more salt.

My family loved it! I used mayo and sour cream, and more ground beef. I for one thought it was a little too salty so I will make my own low sodium onion mix like Chef Leslie suggested.

ok after the reviews I was not sure, but our family liked it. We will make it again sometime. It may be a great casserole dish for church pot luck. I did not add the salt and it came out just about right, also added french fried onions to the top the last few minutes of baking to give it a crunch.
    Thank you.

@Monica, I'm really glad you liked it. The reviews run the gamut from good to bad, so I guess it's just personal preference!

I agree that it's too salty. I wouldn't have added any salt all since the onion soup mix is so salty. But it tastes just like a white castle hamburger!

i think the purpose is to get some good ideas, but any dish can be good if you make it your own. (that is if you can really cook ;) )
