Ingredients

  • 1 (pound) boneless sirloin steak, 1" thick
  • 1/4 (cup) red wine (water or beef broth maybe substituted)
  • 1 (tablespoon) soy sauce (wheat free tamari for gluten free)
  • 1 (tablespoon) worcestershire sauce
  • 1 (tablespoon) balsamic vinegar
  • 1 (tablespoon) sugar

Directions

  1. Place a 12-inch nonstick skillet over medium high heat until hot. Add beef and cook 4 minutes. Turn and cook 4 minutes longer or to your desired doneness.
  2. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine remaining sauce ingredients. Stir to blend and set aside. When beef is done, place on cutting board, cover with foil to keep warm, and let stand. Add sauce mixture to pan residue in skillet.
  3. Bring to a boil over medium high heat and cook 1-2 minutes, scraping bottom and sides of skillet. Serve cooked steak with prepared sauce.

I fried some Italian butter beans in olive oil, with garlic, hot pepper flakes, salt and pepper. They were delicious with the sauce from the steak.

This balsamic sauce pairs perfectly with the pan seared sirloin steak. Serve this with a side wedge salad, loaded baked potato, and chocolate dipped strawberries, for a classy steak house dinner at home!

I'm curious... for the people who have tried this recipe, how do you think this sauce would pair with other meats?

I bet it would be good on pork tenderloin.

Heidi, I have done a similar recipe in the past but have served it on chicken. Instead of the red wine I suggest using honey or chicken broth. You could also do the same with pork as Mendy suggested or even using the sauce recipe as written above but serving it over venison or duck.

@Elizabeth, a side wedge salad is usually a quarter of an iceberg lettuce (cut the core out). Place on it's side on your plate (chilled plates for salad are always a good idea). Pour Blue cheese dressing over the lettuce then sprinkle with chopped tomato, chopped green onions, about 1 T. of crumbled blue cheese and a little crumbled bacon.
