Can you verify if the fat is correct too? That seems a bit high for the ingredients called for.

I tossed all of the ingredients into the crock before I dropped my son off at school. It was hot and ready by the time he got home. I served it over pasta and was DELICIOUS! Thanks again!

Glad you liked it, Julian! I did the same as you a few weeks back because I happened to have everything on hand, and it was really good. Didn't have to do anything but make salad and pasta that night. Made me very happy and the kids loved it.

Smelled delicious and was guite good. I think I cooked it just a little too long at 7 hours the last 3 on low and the first 4 on high.

I noticed your comment, Jane, and it just occurred to me that the next time I make this, I might try using a mix of bone-in breasts, a couples thighs and a couple boneless breasts. The bones would definitely help to keep it from overcooking and would also add more flavor (and my husband loves the dark meat...). I wonder if I'd have to add more sauce if I did that?

This was delicious! I added about 1/4 cup of White Chia Seed meal about 4 hours in to thicken the sauce. It was perfect at 7 hours on low. I ate it like a stew and served it over pasta for my kiddo! Very good.

This was really yummy! I am not a fan of cooked green peppers, so I took those out but to sneak some veggies back in, I roasted a red pepper, pureed it, and added that to the sauce. My hubby & kiddos loved it & never noticed!

  • This was very good, but it definitely needs a little salt added. I think we might try a different sauce next time with some more seasoning, but definitely added to the list!

Canned spaghetti sauce tends to contain all sorts of chemicals and ingredients I'd rather not eat. It takes only a little extra work to use tomato sauce, preferably organic, and toss in some Italian herbs. Much fresher and healthier, too.

Absolutely, Mai-- even just using fresh diced plum tomato sauteed with some garlic, olive oil and a little herbs is fantastic.

trader joes has a good canned spaghetti sauce that would be a great compromise then I usually add a touch of fresh ingredients like zucchini or broccoli and a touch of seasons.

Is Trader Joe's organic? I try to avoid GMOs and going organic is the only way, short of growing them myself.

Trader Joe's has a ton of gluten-free organic etc. products. If you ask one of the people there they can get you the list and it is like seven pages long.

@Mai, I did some research about Trader Joe's and although they do state that they have vegan, gluten free, etc. they do not claim to be organic as far as I can tell. I'm talking about on their website as we do not have a Trader Joe's in Austin as of yet.

Trader Joe's has lots of organic foods in their market.
Their website has a download for gluten free.
Agree about canned sauce... a can of organic diced tomatoes, butter, onion... spices to taste... yummy sauce. I like it not so thick but a friend adds instant mini tapioca to thicken. I like bone in chicken note also... but sometimes... TJ's frozen is there and handy.

Did you cut the chicken breast into bite size or will it break up with the cookibng time? Karla

  • Chef Heather (Food on the Table)
Chef Heather (Food on the Table)

Hi Karla! While the directions for this recipe refer to just placing the chicken breasts in the crock-pot whole, you could certainly dice them into bite size pieces before hand. Cutting them prior to cooking would help cut down on the cooking time. You could also just cook the chicken breasts whole and then 'shred' the whole chicken in the crock-pot with the sauce once it is done cooking.

Thanks Chef Heather. I cooked it on Sunday, it had the house smelling so Good. We enjoyed it, but spoced it up with seasoning. I did shred the chicken, and I served it with whole grain Angel Hair pasta. We are enjoying it. Thanks

This was very good. I cooked 6 chicken thighs instead of breast but I think I'll use breast next time to avoid the de-boning process. Overall have a good taste, I didn't think it needed salt since there was salt on my portobello mushroom spaghetti sauce. Served it over angel hair pasta but I think next time I'll serve it over some brown rice.

This was brilliant! So simple and a true "quick fix" winner in our house. Will be making again and again...actually cut down time in crockpot - and used bone-in chicken which helped prevent overcooking. I did add a little more sauce and had some in reserve to toss with spaghetti when serving. Yum!

I recommend Muir Glen sauce - for those looking for a healthier or organic sauce which is reasonably priced.

just made this last yesterday. Chicken cooked all day while i was at the office. Boiled up the bowtie pasta and served it over that. It was a hit and so easy. Glad both boys (6 and 9) liked it, even with the bell peppers. : )

Cooking this now! I used the recipe as a base and changed it to my families taste. I cubed me chicken I only used 4 they were really big, 1 bell pepper, 1/2 onion, 4 ounces of mushrooms cut thinly, added tomato sauce, cut the spaghetti sauce down, added all my spices I use in my spaghetti sauce including hot sauce to taste and a dash of cayenne. My family likes a little kick in there food.
