Easy but not very complex on flavor profile. I will add basil, broccoli and red peppers next time. Hoping that will elevate it a bit. On hand ingredients make it a plus.

This was alright, but next time I think I'll make it with cream of celery instead of chicken, and throw maybe some cayenne or paprika in there for some zest....

@Mary, glad to hear that! It's so great to get the kids involved, isn't it?! @Anonymous, sorry this was a little bland for you. I know our chefs will have additional suggestions, but you could certainly bump up the flavor by adding a little heat with some cayenne, maybe increasing the garlic, or even adding some smokiness with some chipotle in adobo (even adding a little of the sauce...).

If I add broccoli to this should I add water as well or cook the broccoli separately?

Robert, since I'm not a crockpot pro, I've referred your question to one of our chefs!

Hi Robert! I think adding broccoli to this would be an excellent addition! Just make sure you add it during the last hour of cooking as broccoli does not hold up well for long periods of cooking and will get mushy. You should not have to add more liquid to the crock-pot as there should be enough liquid in the crock-pot already. But if you are concerned about it, you could always cook the broccoli separately and stir it into the 'sauce' right before serving.

We all loved this one! I added a little extra garlic and some lemon pepper seasoning because some of the comments said it was a little bland. Turned out great!

  • This was very good, but I took the advice of the other comments and added some spice. 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp paprika, and 1/2 tsp cayenne. I also used the fiesta cheese soup.

Very easy and tasty. Next time I will season the chicken prior to putting it all in the crockpot. It was a little bland. I made it with egg noodles as well which was a very delicious touch

Made this today with cream of broccoli and cheddar cheese soups. Since others mentioned that the original recipe was somewhat bland, I sprinkled some Emeril's Essence and garlic powder on the chicken breasts. We liked it and will make again.

This did lack flavor, so I had to keep spooning the "soup" over the chicken. Added bacon sounds like a wonderful idea, though!

instead of lemon pepper, fresh lemon juice is great! For garlic lovers, chopping up 3-4 garlic cloves is awesome. And of course at the end adding some fresh parmesan or and cheese if possible. FYI if you serve it with rice, instead of water you can replace it with chicken broth. If you wanna make it so the chicken has some REAL falvor, soak the chicken in a salt brine 30 minutes prior. . .

When you put bacon in did you cook it in the crock pot also?

  • Chef Heather (Food on the Table)
Chef Heather (Food on the Table)

@Anonymous- I recommend cooking the bacon on the stove top or in the oven and then just using it as a garnish right before serving to maintain the crispness. Even if you wanted the bacon to cook in the crock-pot with the other ingredients I still recommend cooking separately and then adding it to the crock-pot; as putting the bacon in the crock-pot raw will result in a chewy 'underdone' texture.
