it seems hard to season 4 chicken breasts with only 1/2 tsp each of salt pepper & paprika also

Hi Kimberly. Thank you for your feedback. Most of our recipes have 'as needed' (which I have added to this recipe) listed after the spices listed in the ingredients; with the specific measurement as a general guideline and suggestion. Feel free to add more or less of the seasonings as you feel needed based on your taste preference, dietary restrictions and of course amount of food. You could also add additional salt and pepper at the table after you have tasted the final cooked product to avoid over seasoning before you can taste it.

Thank you for that info Chef Heather, I just now saw the reply :) I think I will add salt/pepper to taste after the dish is done prior to serving next time as a few pieces lacked a bit of flavor but overall it turned out wonderfully!

Hi Jean Ellen. If you do a quick internet search you will find a number of websites that provide nutritional data calculators that will allow you to plug in recipes or ingredients and will calculate the nutritional information for you. A rough estimate of the nutritional data for this recipe would be approximately 227 calories 14 carbs 8g fat and 27g protein; per serving. Please note that this is just an estimate since I am a chef not a registered dietician or nutritionist.

Do you drain the mushrooms or use the liquid?

  • Chef Heather (Food on the Table)
Chef Heather (Food on the Table)

@Tammy- Add the entire jar of mushrooms, including liquid, into the crock-pot. The liquid from the jar of mushrooms will add additional flavor and will help prevent the chicken from drying out as it cooks in the crock-pot. I have edited the recipe to be more clear about these directions.

To be fair, I didn't follow the recipe exactly - I followed what I recalled of the recipe. I thought the mushrooms were the only part that had a good amount of flavor to them. The hubby & kiddo liked it & asked for us to have it again. Between them liking it & how easy it was, 4 stars. Served over rice (the part I remembered wrong was I added a can of chicken broth that wasn't called for, so it had way more sauce than it was supposed to).

I cooked it on low and it only took 5 hours, not sure if its just my slow cooker or if the timing is off. Turned out great though! Used penne pasta, with a side of mixed veggies. So yummy! Meghan

Quick question - is there a brand of soup you'd recommend to use with it?

Chef Heather (Food on the Table)

Hi Anonymous! This really is just based on your personal preference. Most brands are generally the same and just vary slightly in price, nutritional data, ingredients, etc. so I recommend just reading the labels and selecting the brand that works best for you.

Is the chicken frozen or thawed when placed in crockpot? Might be a dumb question, but I'm a new cook :)

  • Chef Heather (Food on the Table)
Chef Heather (Food on the Table)

Hi Alayne! While you can cook frozen meat in the crock-pot, it is not recommend. For best results, thaw the meat completely before adding to the crock-pot. This is to ensure the fastest cooking time and is to avoid any texture issues caused by cooking the frozen meat. However, if you do choose to use cook frozen meat in the crock-pot be sure and add at least 1 cup of additional liquid to the stoneware before adding the meat. Also you will need to adjust your cooking times and cook recipes containing frozen meats for an additional 4 to 6 hours on Low, or an additional 2 hours on High.
