The Better Way To Plan Meals And Save Money

Getting ready for school...

What are you going to be sending your kids to school with for lunch?

I was looking at this thread because I need to get new lunchboxes for mine, and I feel like I'm out of lunch ideas.

I've been thinking about this, too, because my my kids' eating preferences have changed pretty drastically over the summer. Not only that, but they've both started losing their baby teeth, and are having a bit of a harder time with crunchier foods like fresh carrots and apples now that their front teeth are missing or wobbly...

Mine will be doing mostly the same as last year. Usually a container of yogurt, some sort of pasta salad or maybe tuna or chicken salad once in a while, veggies with some hummus or dip and then some little crunchy snack like rice crisps and a little cheese. We actually have an assortment of lunch boxes--some are just the plain insulated kind and we also have a couple bento boxes--we switch them out depending on what the kids are taking with them.

What great suggestions Kendra! Also a thermos full of soup or chili, with a side of crackers, corn bread, etc is a great way to serve a 'hot lunch' from home to the kids. And try changing things up a bit (maybe a special Friday treat) by packing a peanut butter, marshmallow fluff and banana sandwich or Nutella and banana sandwich. Another way to change up the traditional ham and cheese sandwich is to make your own 'lunchable' by cutting the ham and cheese into squares and packing them with some crackers.

Good idea on the 'lunchables', Heather, because I wouldn't buy anything like that prepackaged, and one of my guys is always asking for them because he sees other kids with them.
