The Better Way To Plan Meals And Save Money

When is food cooled down enough to put in the fridge?

The other night I left chili in the crock pot for my husband and kids, while I went to a friend's house. I was out for more than four hours, and came home close to midnight only to find the crockpot still on the 'warm' setting, and the chili--with meat--still steaming hot. I wound up sitting up for another two hours waiting for the stuff to cool down! What temperature would have been safe for me to put it away at?

Did you transfer the food into another container for storage? That stoneware holds a lot of heat for a pretty long time.

I always put mine in a new container and then set it in an ice bath in the sink so I can put it away sooner. I don't know about precise temps, but I just let it get down to room temp.

Yup I agree with Barb. Room temp.

Ditto from me... I just get things down to room temp and then make sure to get them in the fridge ASAP.
