Storing crab in refrigerator

How long will it hold for? I picked some crab legs up the day before yesterday--didn't get a chance to make them last night but figured they'd still be okay today. But this morning there was definitely an off-smell in the refrigerator when I opened it. Has it really gone bad already?

Lesley, I'd definitely try to use fresh crab the same day, and at the very latest, the day after, especially if you're detecting any sort of unpleasant odor from them.

Fresh crab meat should last 3 days in the fridge. Longer if it's cooked. If it smells "off" then I would discard it. Remember, you may have bought it day before yesterday but how long was it at the store? 3 days MAX on fresh.

No wonder. I bought first thing in the morning thinking I would use them the same day, and they weren't at all frozen.

That's pretty much what I suspected... There's probably a good chance those had been in the case from the day before, so you were probably close to the end of the usable date when you got them. Nothing worse than throwing out expensive seafood!
