Kids snacking is good or not?

My kids are constantly snacking and it isn't always the best stuff. They are fine, health wise, but I wonder if it would be better for them to just eat my meals? They rarely eat their whole dinner due to snacking.

I'd say snacking is a good way to get some more calories and nutrients in them. Just make sure they aren't eating because they are bored. And make sure there is sufficient time between snack and dinner.

I've read somewhere and heard from other moms that kids get up to 30% of their daily calories from snacking, and that is totally OK. Keep in minds kids' stomachs are smaller, so they are in need of food regularly to fuel their growing bodies! Plus, would you rather have a whining child who wants something to eat but you're making them wait till dinner , or just give them a healthy snack and have a happy kid?? Just make sure they're getting healthy snacks, or make sure they have something healthy BEFORE the "bad" stuff (making it less likely that they will have a any or a lot of if) .

Allison is correct. It is healthier to snack a lot than it is to eat big meals.

I have to say it depends on the persons individual body. Everyones right.

I have a rule in my house that if the kids want to snack between meals, they can have unlimited veggies or fruits...that way I know they're getting them even when they seldom eat them at the dinner table! Of course they get occasional "treats" - which is anything besides fruit or veggies.

My Daughter got rid of all the "bad" snacks, so she does not have to worry about what they eat at home anymore. This works great for older kids too!

I raised my kids with moderation and thankfully it worked. So when they were out of my sight they did not end up gorging on everything in sight.

I agree with what I'm seeing here. I don't keep junk food of any kind around the house, and the kids have one cabinet stocked with snacks for them. They're also allowed to go into the fridge for fruit, carrot sticks and organic juice boxes. But when mealtimes are rolling around, I generally try to get them to lay off the snacks for at least an hour before. Every once in a while my husband throws things off by buying chips or chocolate, thinking the kids won't find it... but somehow they always ferret it out and it takes a few days until they're happy with the good stuff again. But it's definitely great for kids to eat five or even six small meals a day.
