What are some good picnic foods?

Since there are probably only a few warm days left this season, I thought I'd take my family out for a picnic in the park to enjoy the sun while we eat. I usually bring sandwiches and fruit, along something simple like potato salad/macaroni salad, or even deviled eggs on occasion. I'd like to try something a little different for a change since I feel like that's what we do every time. Any good food or recipe suggestions? Thanks! :)

    I know this is late, but maybe it will still help? Sometimes I will take barbecue chicken, corn on the cob and a side bread like an Italian bread or cheesy bread. I pack everything in foil instead of Tupperware because it seems to keep it hotter longer. Even so, these things are good cold too, so the temperature doesn't become too much of a concern!

    Leafy salads are also a good option, if you can get little containers with everyone's favourite dressing and keep them separate. I did that once, with Parmesan crusted chicken as a topping : ) Chilled mini pizzas might be a good option, too!

    Since it's picnic season again, there's nothing like some classic fried chicken! Actually, now that I think of it, there's a great book by Susan Branch...

    Well, you'll have to trust me on that, because I couldn't locate it on my bookshelf. But I did find Susan branch online, and I highly recommend her recipes, and I do recall that one of her books (From the Heart of the Home, I believe) had some wonderful picnic recipes in it.

    Husband and I like pressed sandwiches. I guess you could make them in a Panini press if you have one, or just refrigerate wrapped in foil under bricks or a heavy pot if you have greens or herbs that you don't want to heat up. Sometimes the kids will just even have peanut butter and Nutella sandwiches and fruit...

    This roasted red pepper wrap is an old favorite of ours (I think I even remember seeing someone here mention something similar): You could just as easily do these in pita pockets, but I really like to use lavash that's on the thicker side so it can absorb some of the wonderful juices. Anyway, I clean and roast 3-4 red peppers, and then slice into strips and let them marinate with a bit of olive oil and balsamic vinegar, a dash of sugar and salt and pepper to taste. When you're ready to do the sandwiches--and I would do them until maybe half an hour before you're leaving for your picnic--just spread the mixture over two/thirds of your lavash along with some freshly torn basil and oregano, and then dot with nice little bits of fresh mozzarella. Another sprinkle of balsamic vinegar and olive oil, roll them up nice and tight and you're good to go. They're amazing once the juices start coming together with the bread... And that amount will make two really good-sized sandwiches, so if you're taking a few other dishes, you could easily feed four on that.
