How about more options for stores?

My local Food Lion never seems to have a good selection and we don't have a Publix (yet). I would love to have Kroger or Walmart as options.

I would suggest that you add an option for users to add their own recipies. These could be shared and would add more to your database and make it more diverse

Is there an option to remove items from the grocery list? I would love to be able to delete the items I already have on hand to make recipes so I don't buy more than I need!

Melody - you can delete items from the grocery list by clicking on the red "x" to the left of the item on your grocery list. Does that work for you?

It would be great to be able to choose foods for breakfast, lunch, and snacks also.
My family are health-conscious and it would be very helpful to be able to see how many servings of each food group we are planning as we make our menus for the week. Would this be possible? Love your site! Thank you so much!

I AM IN AGREEMENT ON ADDING TWO NEW STORES FOR MY AREA LIKE BOBBI, KROGER AND WALMART BECAUSE PUBLIX IS MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE TO ME ALTHOUGH I LOVE THE STORE. WITH ONLY ONE WORKING IT IS ALL ABOUT US SAVING THE MOST MONEY WE CAN! THANKS!

@Amanda - Glad you expanded the stores. Will you also be expanding the number of stores we can choose? And how many we shop at? Soon? ;-)

I mean, who ever compares only 3 stores? Or shops at only one store? We regularly compare 7 or 8 stores, and shop at 3 or 4 every week.

This website is a neat idea but the meal selection is useless. It's just a bunch of meats and a little vegetarian menu. Who cares about any of those items? Who thinks of what they want to eat in terms of it's ingredients? I want to eat things like pizza, pasta, burritos, stew, salads, casseroles. Maybe it eventually suggests that if you go through the whole process but I signed up, saw the food selection, and quit. Nice idea but failed execution.

I love that the recipes show a rating from users - perhaps it could also show a $ range? and after selecting the first meal, it could add a section (under beef, chicken, etc) called "Shared Ingredients" where it would display other meals that share ingredients with the ones you've already selected, helping people save even more.

This is a great site, btw. :)

Issue: When in 'edit' mode in my recipe (clicked the little yellow pencil), the keyboard arrow keys close the window. I was trying to edit a bell peppper into a poblano, and the left/right arrow keys do not move the cursor as expected.

Here's a list of things that need to be tended to. You do this and you'll change people's lives forever, in a great way.

    1. Calculate serving size/amount of ingredients needed

When selecting and editing recipes, I notice when you change the serving size (for example: 4 down to 2) it does not automatically change the portions called for the recipe. This is a BIG NO for me. That means if I want to get the correct portion size for 2 (My Girlfriend and I) I would have to manually change all of the portion size of the ingredients for 2 and if I don't change it, I will over spend and over cook food costing more $$$ and wasting food that wont be eaten and thrown away.

Please take the Allrecipe.com approach where when you change the servings size and hit calculate, it automatically changes the portion of ingredients for how many people you need to serve.

    2. What's my approximate cost per item/total for groceries?

Also incorporate approximate price per itemized item. One thing that keeps me going back to E-mealz.com is Approximate cost grocery list. Each item on the list has an approximate cost you know how much you are going to spend on groceries. Here's a sample: http://www.e-mealz.com/samples/sample-walmart-for2.pdf

    3. Go Mobile, Sync with Google Calendar

This is when it gets down the really techy stuff. See plantoeat.com

A couple of things that separates you from the rest is your store index of sales and the ability to choose what you want to eat (downfall of E-mealz.)

ITS ALL ABOUT THE PHILOSOPHY OF YOUR PRODUCT:::::

While I love this concept, your pricing isn't competitive. Why should I have to pay a year in advance to even come close to a reasonable rate? This is easily the highest priced meal planning service I've come across.

I just signed up to try it out, and I have a couple of questions/comments. Can we select more than one grocery store for the week? (I will generally make a stop at 2 stores during the week) Also, how do I print out the recipe? Please add photos, and suggested sides for an entree would be a time saver. I really like the store/sale feature!

  • Shad (Food on the Table)
    Shad (Food on the Table)

Wendy: Currently, we only support having a single "primary" store. This is a request we've had before, however. Feel like that's something we'll probably do at some point. Photos have been added when we have them. We don't have photos for everything yet though. You can print the recipes in your meal plan on the final step of meal planning. Suggested sides is something we want to do as well.

Keep an eye out. Lots of changes coming soon!

    Shad (Food on the Table)

Hi Wendy. Our nutrition data is based on standards set by the USDA and we have an automated process that determines the info for each individual recipe. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work perfectly. We recognize that we could be doing a better job on this. If you have a specific recipe that you believe is incorrect, please email us at support@foodonthetable.com and we'll have our chefs take a look.

I just signed up for this site today, planned a week's menu (M-F) and then went to the store - so far so good. HOWEVER, as an FYI -- I noticed that I needed pork chops for one of the recipes and it was NOT on my shopping list....? Luckily I remembered and was able to gram them before I left, and I just hope that I got everything else that is needed.

This site is a good idea, but being vegan, it is of no use to me. Entering in "Vegan," "low fat," and "heart healthy" returned only recipes utilizing chicken, beef, pork and seafood. Unfortunately, the only dishes I would be able to use are in the side-dish area and most of those include dairy and/or cheese. I may try again in a few months to see if the site has been better upgraded for healthier lifestyles. Until then, best of luck.

    So since I can't email y'all -- here's my email:

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the app on my Android phone and still have issues. It will open with the FOTT logo and say "loading" but it never does. This is really inconvenient when I am at the grocery store trying to shop off my grocery list. Or when I am in the kitchen trying to pull up the receipes and when the app doesn't load, I have to stop what I'm doing go back into the study and write it all down.....b/c I don't see an easy way to print it or email it to myself from the actual website. I know I've printed the recipes before but tonight I can't find it - and regardless I'm out of ink and so have to write it all down again.

The app thing is really frustrating and almost worth me cancelling the program all toether....do you guys have any solutions or updates to the app program?

Well - you need to have a page clearly listing the difference between the free and paid accounts. Also, I live in a small town, and it only lists 1 store in my town. All the other stores that come up are in a nearby town where I do not grocery shop.

I've been using the site a bit and here are a few ideas - a few pretty crucial ones: ability to edit the quantity of an item in the grocery list (lists 'lemon' 3 different times, but i can't edit it to say 3 lemons, etc). Ability to see my meal plan laid out on a calendar, w/ drag and drop (so i can see what night i am eating something). Ability to add breakfast and lunch and snacks as well. A horizontal Sunday-Saturday layout w/ breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks would be awesome!!! (on my dashboard maybe?) Also, it would be cool to have meal suggestions based on cheese, or pasta, or something besides mostly meat. (we do eat meat tho so that works mostly). Option to have grocery list and the recipes emailed to me (instead of just list). Otherwise enjoying the site, thanks.

I just signed up for a free membership. I don't see enough recipes. Most of the recipes i do see use canned soup, prepackaged stuff, jar sauces. I can't control what goes into my dishes if I use them. It is so easy to make sauces and soup I prefer not to buy. There isn't very many recipes. I will keep looking around this site but don't think I will be staying very long.

@Anonymous, I'm not sure how you're searching for recipes right now, but there are many, many recipes that don't call for anything processed. Also, you'll find lots of recommendations from our chefs, as well as input from other users about sauces, sides, soups, not to mention lots of discussions (many of which include recipes) on special diets, because there are many of us here who don't want to use any processed/prepackaged foods at all. I hope you'll look around more! Hint: you can always enter whatever ingredient you're looking to cook in the search box at the upper right corner, and you should see lots of options you can quickly scan through.

You need to address the Customer Support issue of this site. Under "Support" I saw "Discussions" and clicked on that. It was NOT discussions - it was only comments. We're still a fairly small group of people here, but we do work hard to ensure that everyone has a good experience. Sometimes questions require individualized answers, though, so I would ask that you direct this particular inquiry by e-mail to support@foodonthetable.com. Just saw this discussion topic after adding my own discussion, I think. It's seems kinda easy to get a bit lost on the site. Anyway, is there a way to save recipes as favorites, and items as favorites without having to search every time? Also, will there be a way to import a recipe in at least a rudimentary manner? I can make adjustments, but importing the bulk of text will save a TON of time. Are there plans on having an exclusion list for items or types of item when searching for recipes? I use food.com (formerly recipezaar) for storing recipes and doing filtered searches. I also use supercook.com for a "what can I make with items on hand" searches. I realize those aren't your focus, but it gives you an idea of some of the search options I'm used to, and may benefit your site. Oh, I also use the grocery king android app.

  • Donna (Food on the Table)
    Donna (Food on the Table)

@Anonymous, first, thanks for all of the feedback--we really do value all of the input we get from everyone and do take it into consideration for future improvements to the site. As far as saving recipes, when you're browsing recipes or if you search for one and come across something you like, just click on the button to add it to your cookbook. When you want to do a meal plan later, you'll be able to click on an icon that says "see all recipes" and you'll see everything you've added to your cookbook, as well as recipes you've added yourself. As far as importing recipes go, I know that we've asked folks whether they're rather be able to import recipes by clicking a link or entering them manually, etc., and I confess that I don't know if we have an answer on that (but I'll ask). I'll tell you what I do, though... I've always had all my recipes (including family recipes or ones I've developed myself) stored as Word documents on my computer, and I just copied and pasted them in without any extra formatting. By and large, that's worked fine for me and was definitely a huge timesaver. And yes, we're definitely trying to make it easier for you to exclude ingredients you don't want to use--by the way, since you're an android user, are you using Food on the Table on the Android? It's a great app and has some nice extras! I hope this helps.

Hi there. I'm new and have some questions:
    1. When I go to 'Settings' and to 'My Grocery Store' how do I get it to default to my city? Right now it defaults to Sanford, NC which is no where near me.
    2. How do I get the 'Friends' bar to go away? I keep clicking 'hide' and nothing happens.
    3. I chose 'Salads' as one of my preferences but I am not given 'Salads' as a choice when I am chosing my weekly plan. What have I missed?
    4. Everytime I log in, the same survey questions I've answered about 5 times keep popping up. How do I turn that off?
    5. When I want to get my completed grocery list, it would be great to have a choice as to what email address we can send it to. Sometimes I need the list to go to my nanny or to my work email address.
    6. What is the difference between 'cookbook' and 'favorites' and what is an easy way (as in, one click) to get there?
    7. Is there a way to store meal plan history or create several weeks worth of plans at one time? I don't want to have to think of what I want to eat every single week. Set it and forget it would be ideal.
    8. I only cook for 2 or 3. Is there a way to change the number of servings and have it automatically adjust the measurements of ingredients?
    9. Is there a way to separate the plans into groups like breakfast, lunch, and dinner so we can track what we've already planned a bit easier?
    10. There are only 2 stores in my area that participate with your site. What are the plans to add more stores?
When I first read the description of the site it sounded like just the tool I was looking for-- but there are quite a few limitations and features to tweak. (Still no 'Sides' category after all this time?) I feel that the price for the service is too high at this point, especially since this seems to be a work in progress. It sure does have a lot of potencial, though! Thanks.

I have a suggestion for the printed grocery list. condense the printed page some, so it's easier to get most items on one side of the page. I know it's impossible to guarantee a full list on one side of the page every time, but currently there is a bunch of white space in between the list categories then can be removed or condensed to make it a little easier to fit. love the site, i use it weekly to plan meals. we find our family eating out a lot less, which helps our pockets and our health, so i'm not mad that that. thanks you!

On the Recipe page ~ Where is the button to "add your own recipes"?? On the recipe page where is a "my favorites" button or a "my cookbook" button? Is any of that stuff even in here and if it is why isn't it on the "recipes" page? Why does it not save my password BUT it saves the recipes I selected? (What is the point of a password if it accepts a different one each time?) Where does it tell you what you get if you buy a membership? WHY is this site so hard to navigate??? You're welcome, Stacey, You'll actually find all of the subscription details if you click on the Recipes link, which takes you to the meal-planning function. Once you're there, if you click on the Dashboard link, and then on Settings, you'll see a link for subscriptions. Basically, the longer you sign up for, the lower the cost per month is. It's very simple to cancel: you can either e-mail support@foodonthetable,com or just post a request to the board; if you post to the board, I'll take care of it for you. But thanks for much for considering giving us another shot! Please feel free to post any other questions and let us know how it works out for you.

@Amy and Cynthia- At this time you can not change the number of servings on the main website. However, we hope to add this feature soon! In the meantime, if you have the phone app, you can adjust the number of servings when you select a recipe before adding it to your meal plan.

I just noticed this past week that my Publix sales are not working. I received an email from Food on The Table that had 0 (that's ZERO) food items on the sale list; Publix never has ZERO food items for sale. The email was sent on April 2, 2013; also, I have not received one for the new week. Any one else having a problem with Publix sales or emails? ~ L.D.

Hi Lori, stores don't always publish their sales in a consistent way, and so we do the best we can collecting those items. We are constantly working to improve the process by which we collect sale items from stores. Hopefully you will see this improve over time. If you have any more questions, please email us at support@foodonthetable.com.

The iPhone app has a function to import recipes from the web, but it's limited to certain sites. I would love to be able to access my pinterest boards as that is where I keep all my recipes!
