What is authentic Mexican ground beef seasoned with?

Local Mexican eateries seem to know what's up when it comes to the flavor of their beef. Usually when I cook Mexican (tacos, mainly) at home, I use the prepackaged taco seasoning. I'd like something that tastes a little more authentic though. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Cumin is one and also cilantro is used a lot.

This can definitely vary according to the particular dish, too. But definitely some sort of peppers, whether jalapeno, serrano or poblano--garlic, onion, salt, ground black pepper, cumin, maybe even some cinnamon or clove for some dishes.
