There is nothing quite like lounging in the sun with a cool drink. Pina coladas, margaritas, sangria. Anyone of those might make a satisfying complement to your day of fun in the sun, but if you could find a drink that was just as tasty and refreshing and had all the nutrition that those other drinks are lacking, well that would be something worth celebrating wouldn’t it?
This seems like the perfect time to mention that mango juice, with all its explosive flavor and tropical flare, has also been shown to have some pretty astounding health benefits.
First, the American Society for Nutrition Journal of Nutrition reports that mango juice may help prevent cancer in several different ways. First, mango juice is high in antioxidants, the cells that neutralize damaging free radicals. The mango joins other fruits like acai berries, blueberries and strawberries that also have these healthful elements.
The benefits of mango juice aren’t restricted to cancer prevention. Mangos are rich in Vitamins A and C and have incredibly high fiber content, which encourages good digestion. Here is a short list of other benefits of the fruit:
- Prevents mental weakness
- High in beta carotene which prevents heart and eye disease
- Lessens heavy bleeding during menstruation
- Regular consumption of mango juice improves complexion and skin health
- Rich in iron
Here’s a delicious recipe for fresh mango juice with a sweet little kick:
Peel two mango and chop them into medium sized pieces. Place them in a blender with ice and water (or milk for a thicker drink). Blend them together until smooth. Pour a big of honey or sugar into the mix and blend some more. Run the juice through a sieve and throw away the pulp. Pour the mixture into glasses and you’re ready to enjoy your poolside view with a delicious and healthful drink.
Next time you’re faced with the dilemma of what to sip on while laying poolside, remember that mango juice has all the taste of drinks like margaritas and pina coladas, but carries the added benefits of healthiness.
