There are many ways to celebrate our great nation this Independence Day, and notably most Americans say July 4th is their favorite holiday for grilling! Few things are more American than enjoying fireworks and grilling delicious beef for Independence Day – except maybe saving money in the process.
There are beef choices at your supermarket to satisfy all tastes, schedules and budgets, so knowing the cuts to look for will help stretch your holiday budget without sacrificing flavor. Next time you’re at the meat case, look for cuts like Flat Iron steak, Skirt steak and of course, ground beef.
First is the Flat Iron steak, also called Top Blade steak. At about $4 per pound, you can enjoy the second most tender beef cut for a fraction of the price of many other steaks. The Flat Iron is popular because it’s economical, versatile, juicy and flavorful. Flat Iron can be enjoyed as a steak, in fajitas or as kabobs, and it can be grilled, broiled or stir-fried. This Flat Iron with Grilled Corn and Cumin-Lime Butter recipe is a must try this summer!
Skirt steak cannot be overlooked when grilling as it’s boneless and extremely tasty. Skirt steak benefits from a tenderizing marinade, so throw in your favorite flavors a few hours before you plan to fire up the grill. To increase tenderness, carve your Skirt steak diagonally across the grain into thin slices for a perfect taco or salad topper. Try this recipe for Grilled Skirt Steak with Creamy Citrus Dressing.
Burgers. Don’t pass over them so quickly. Easy, affordable and endless options make burgers an obvious choice for your grill this Fourth of July. Change up a simple burger by adding your favorite flavors like jalapenos, blue cheese, sautéed onions or mushrooms. Stuff these tasty ingredients inside the patty for a burger that comes with a special flavor burst inside! Try our Stuffed Jalapeno Burgers or the Ranch Burger for some patriotic flair!
Whether it’s burgers, steaks or kabobs, beef grilled to perfection turns a simple grill-out into a memorable, budget-friendly American celebration!
