This back to school season we asked a few Food on the Tablers to review a new lunch or snack product, Ritz Crackerfuls. Crackerfuls come in a variety of flavors, so we sent out Multigrain Sharp Cheddar, Classic Cheddar, and Multigrain Garlic Herb. Here are the opinions and photos from our excellent product reviewers.

Multigrain Garlic Herb:

I tested the Ritz Crackerfuls Multigrain Garlic Herb flavor. The portion size was perfect; the Crackerful was big enough to tide me over until dinner (hello, 5 grams of fiber!), but not too big to totally fill me up. For the taste, I would give the Crackerful 3 out of 5. The cracker reminded me of other multigrain crackers I’ve tried with a nice, nutty flavor. However, the filling left a little to be desired. It had a mild garlic flavor which didn’t cut it for a full-on garlic kind of gal like me. If you like your garlic toned-down and a nutty taste to your crackers, you’d be in Ritz heaven eating these! I’m known for being pretty picky about the texture of my food, so this is where the Crackerful really got scrutinized. The cracker was nice and crunchy, but the filling was a bit chalky if not a little grainy. Overall, I’m glad I got to try these, but I probably won’t be buying them anytime soon.

Multigrain Sharp Cheddar:

I received the crackers while my three-year old granddaughter was staying with me.  I hope that you can see in the picture she

loved them!  She ate them like Oreo cookies: first separating the crackers and eating the cheese from the middle, and then eating the crackers.

They were also enjoyed by myself and my husband.  I really liked the real cheese in the middle, and the whole grain crackers.  A healthy snack that really tastes great!

Classic Cheddar:

Some of the things I liked about the Crackerfuls:

Made with some Whole Grain, wish there was more. High in Fiber, 3g per serving is good for me. (I follow Weight Watchers, so I have to watch for grain, fiber and fat), wish the fat were a little lower. The fact that they are individually wrapped was helpful in portion control. I had one serving with sliced apples as an afternoon snack and one serving with a salad.

Overall, I enjoyed the Crackerfuls. The cracker was fresh and there was just enough cheese to compliment but not overwhelm.  I liked the Cheddar and can’t wait to try the other flavors.

Multigrain Garlic Herb:

Food On The Table chose me to receive a sample box of Ritz Crackerfuls to taste and review. The cracker was quite large, about the size of a candy bar. It was a multigrain cracker that had a nice, nutty taste. The cracker was a little less crispy than I would have liked, however.

The cheese had a good flavor, the garlic and herbs came through. But there wasn’t enough of it. It was mostly cracker, especially with the two of them making the sandwich. Perhaps a thinner, lighter cracker with the same amount of cheese or more cheese with the same crackers would have been more satisfying. The cracker is so hearty the small amount of cheese doesn’t really stand up to it. The cheese also didn’t come close to reaching the edge of the cracker. If I were going to make this sandwich myself, I would want every bite to be full of cheese.

The other problem with the cheese, which was an even bigger issue for me than the amount was that the cheese was extremely dry and chalky. Most sandwich crackers like this have a cheese that is slightly dry, which I can understand because you don’t want the cracker to be soggy. This, however, was really unpleasant. It left me feeling very thirsty and I couldn’t finish the rest of the cracker without taking a drink after every bite.

My family seemed to enjoy them somewhat, but I doubt I’ll be buying them unless they clamor for them when we’re in the store. Not my favorite snack, to say the least.

They’re a little pricey, too. Six sandwiches for around $3.00 seems expensive to me when you could buy a whole box of Ritz and a container of cheese spread for a little less than twice that. I’ll continue to make my own cheese and crackers. The convenience isn’t enough of a selling point to overcome the issues with the cheese and the price.

Four Cheese:

I liked the Ritz Crackerfuls. They had the classic sweet Ritz taste. I love cheese so the fact that it was added was a great convenience. I was hoping for a bit more cheese flavor but that may be due to the fact that it isn’t one cheese but four.

I had it several times as an afternoon snack or as in the picture, right after work with some juicy tomatoes and a refreshing beverage. :)

I also liked the package size and that they were individually wrapped. They were large enough that I didn’t feel cheated when I opened the package (or automatically opens other).
