Don’t forget about the No Whine With Dinner Cookbook Giveaway through November 7!
Did you decide that yesterday’s post on monthly meal planning was a little daunting? We can take a few steps back and try something very simple – planning by theme.
Planning by theme is a great way to narrow down recipe decisions and make planning easier. The drawback is it’s more difficult to work from the grocery circulars and doesn’t allow much variety.
Life As Mom contributes some great ideas to menu planning “the 1950s way.” She calls it “the 1950s way” because in that time moms often assigned a menu to each day of the week.
Themes could not only be cuisine type, but also cooking method. Here’s an example:
Day 1 – Noodles
Day 2 – Casserole
Day 3 – Mexican
Day 4 – Entrée Salad
Day 5 – Pizza
Day 6 – Grilling
Day 7 – Crockpot
Have you tried this type of meal planning? Is it helpful?

I love planning by theme!! My husband is away Mon – Thurs so to simplify meal planning for my 2 kids and I I do the following: Breakfast for dinner, pasta, meat, seafood – keeps me focused, gets fish in and keeps those busy carpool nights simple!
I would add SALAD to that theme list. Changing the protein, the type of lettuce, the other veggies, adding fruit can vary salads all summer long.
